From the handmade double bed beneath the star-gazing window to the bespoke hand-carved sinks and rustic interiors, every part of the retreat has been carefully designed to feel warm, welcoming, and full of character.

Inside, the wood-burning stove creates a cosy atmosphere throughout the seasons, while the double gas hob, cooking essentials, and comfortable furnishings make countryside living both simple and relaxing. Bag End also features a slipper bath with handheld shower alongside its own handcrafted wash hand basin.

Meanwhile, the eco-friendly compost toilet sits in its own neighbouring ‘wee’ howf beside the retreat, continuing the unique handcrafted feel of the experience.

Reaching Bag End is all part of the adventure. A peaceful 200 metre walk from the car park leads you through the countryside to your secluded hillside retreat, with your own wheelbarrow available to help transport luggage along the way.

Outside, the fire pit and BBQ area provide the perfect place to relax beneath dark Scottish skies while taking in the surrounding countryside views. During spring and summer, the hillside comes alive with colour and wildlife, creating a peaceful setting that feels far removed from everyday life.

Additionally, guests are welcome to explore the Craighead Howfs grounds and meet our friendly Highland cows, alpacas, pygmy goats, Valais Blacknose sheep, ducks, geese, emus, and other quirky residents that make the smallholding such a memorable part of the experience.

Meanwhile, around the smallholding, you’ll meet our Highland cows, pony, Soay sheep, Valais Blacknose sheep, rheas, peafowl, ducks, geese, pygmy goats, alpacas, and other quirky residents.

Check-in for Bag End is available from 3 pm, and we kindly ask guests to depart by 10 am on the day of check-out. If you know your estimated arrival time, please include it in the comments box when booking. This helps us prepare for your stay.
